IHOP & Word of Faith DECEPTION

If the truth will set you free, then remember that lies will put you in bondage.

The gospel is complete. There is not going to be another testament, another way to reach God or another way to please God. Salvation is a complete gift from God and we cannot add anything to make it more complete.

Jude shows us about the character of false teachers. They’re DREAMERS – but what are they dreaming about?  How about health, wealth, prosperity?  They’re the “have it NOW” group. Sure, sure, God wants you in heaven with Him but you can really have heaven NOW – IF you “pray God’s word over…blah, blah, blah..  ” Because “God CANNOT defy his own WORD”. i.e. the Word is used like an incantation. That’s a big no-no. This is a very common teaching with Word of Faith.  And that is called “testing God”, which He tells us not to do.

They DEFILE THE FLESH.  i.e. Not only do they quietly ‘approve’ of sexual immorality, but after they’ve “accepted” these lifestyles, they even elevate these persons into teaching positions. ((Let’s take Bob Jones and Paul Cain as IHOP examples of this..Then there’s Benny Hinn… and the list goes on and on and on..)) Bob Jones and Paul Cain were kicked out of IHOP publically, but BOTH still close friends with Mike Bickle – and Bickle still referring to them as “great prophets”.  The others still maintain their marvelous “ministries”..

They DESPISE AUTHORITY.  They absolutely cannot accept ANY criticism of their teachings, thoughts or ideas at all. It becomes that attitude of, “I know something that YOU don’t because GOD speaks to ME.” ((This is yet another IHOP bump in the road. ANYone who speaks out against Mike Bickle or ANY of the other IHOP “teachers” is immediately looked upon as loathsome and someone to be avoided at all costs.))   Any friends or family who voice their opposition to Mike Bickle/IHOP, need to be avoided at all costs.  “For your spiritual protection..”

They BLASPHEME GLORIOUS BEINGS. How many times have we heard about marvelous leaders “going up into the third heaven..” and “speaking directly” with God.. Let’s do one better than that. How about the “YOU CAN DO IT NOW” way of getting into INSTANT ACCESS with God – i.e. CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER. ***Never forget that ANY time someone was taken into the spirit realm, it was not by a decision on their part, but rather by the Spirit ONLY.

If only the people practicing contemplative prayer would have their eyes opened to the fact that it is not God they’re coming in contact with when they practice contemplative prayer.  If only they would realize it is a familiar spirit – a demon entity they’re speaking with when practicing that.

Being one who has been delivered from the deception of believing these lies, I can tell you it’s no easy thing to do, but ASK God to remove the blinders from your eyes.  Ask Him to really show you the deception and then allow Him to do that very thing.  I tell you the truth: Once the blinders have been removed and you truly see, you will fall on your face thanking Him for allowing you to see how close you came to getting burned.

  1. I think you’re right, but it’s hard getting out of the deception when you’re in it so deep. Like even if you get out, you don’t really see how bad you’ve been fooled. at least not right away. It’s really hard too, if you’ve had people ragging you the whole time telling you how bad it is. It’s really hard to get out because then you’re thinking they’re wanting some type of admission that they were right. People just need to pray for the ones in it to get out.

  2. Casey,
Sorry so long before the reply… your post didn’t come thru..

The worst part about getting away/out of this deception is that during the time the person’s there, they’ve been molded – brainwashed and they find themself questioning their own salvation when you they and break free. Think about it: If I leave this place, I might not be saved… That’s a scary thought and a portion of what keeps many of them staying instead of breaking free and getting out of there.

  3. So right, there isn’t going to be another gospel, another God/Jesus/Holy Spirit, another Bible or another satan (if anyone has been accused of being that-wow).

    Cross, completed redemptive work=Amen!

  4. Just remember to study the Word of God and pray. He will open your eyes, and cause you to grow in grace and knowledge. We all need unceasing prayers for ourselves and others in the Body of Christ. Col. 1:9-12 says “For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Fatjer, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.”
I too was a part of this movement for several years. When I left I was so confused and doubted even my salvation. The Lord is faithful to each one of us. When He leads you out, opens your eyes to the deception, He will also keep you and establish you. Our faith is in Him and we know that we belong to Him if we love Him and keep His commandments.
A good precept Bible study will help any believer. I have spent about two years in a good precept Bible study and it has helped me so much. Hang in there, don’t get discouraged because the fog will lift. He never fails and we can trust Him for our sanctification and growth. Romans is an excellent precept Bible Study.
He has also gifted me with people who have also left. One is ahead of me as far as coming out and growing and another precious friend came out after me and is growing in Christ. Having friends in the Lord is really a support. Hangeth thou in there in faith in Christ. Praise God that you have seen His light.

  5. I googled with, “What is contemplative prayer?” and found the following site,

Is this contemplative prayer you guys are talking about? It looks harmless to me. I could be wrong; but the church that I am attending wants us to “wait on the Lord”. It so happened our church respects Mike Bickle a great deal.

    Where Worship Never Pauses
A Christian ministry has drawn thousands with its emphasis on perpetual prayer, but some say it has a cultlike atmosphere.

  7. Sue, can you find these phrases in the scripture? 1. Empty your mind. 2. Repeat a word, a phrase or a bible verse to your self over and over for 20 minutes. 3.Listen to your feelings about this verse.
That is contemplative prayer. Also known as ‘Centering’ prayer, unfortunately practitioners are looking inside to their own centers and not to Christ who is the Center.
You won’t be able to find any of these techniques in the scripture, but you will find find these and even more detailed instructions in the new age and eastern religion sections of your local bookstores.
It’s good your church wants you to wait upon the Lord, more importantly, the Lord wants you to wait upon Him. Contemplative prayer however, is not waiting on the Lord, it is nothing more than trancendental meditation ‘christianized’ by using a scripture as a mantra.
I have no idea why your church respects Mike, but it can only be for a few reasons, either they are unfamiliar with him, his past and his doctrine, or sadly, there is a familiarity, but a lack of spiritual and scriptural discerment. I am not saying this to be mean or nasty, I know Mike and was once a skilled apologist for IHOP. Nonetheless, those are the only reasons I can think of.
Contemplative/Centering/Soaking prayer are not harmless in the least. They are mechanisms of self-hypnosis and gateways to both demonic oppression and possession. They are completely man/self centered rather than God/Christ centered. I urge to to re-evalute this through the Word of God. -Chad Golani
