NY Times Looking for Info on Deaton Murder / IHOP

This was a recent comment.  Anyone who wishes to contact the reporter her info is below.  Thanks!

Hi All, greetings to you. I am a national correspondent at the New York Times. I’m trying to understand as much as I can both the Bethany Deaton case and the group led by Tyler Deaton for a story. I’d be very interested in talking to anyone who has information about Tyler’s group or his involvement — or the involvement of other group members — with IHOP (also, I’d love to hear all sides of the debate that’s taking place on this blog). I’m in Kansas City at the moment and could meet with anyone who was willing to talk to me or talk by phone. You can reach me atgoode@nytimes.com or call me at 916-952-9031. Thanks very much. About annunk

I have seen too many believers in Christ falling into the trap of practicing "Christianized New Age" and still calling it holy. Contemplative prayer is nothing more ( or less) than TM. Totally unscriptural. I encourage anyone who's interested in knowing the truth of God's word to dig in daily and SEARCH - be like the Bereans - FIND OUT if the teachings, messages, books you've read or radio speakers you've heard are dissecting God's word correctly. If they're not, throw out what you've heard. Trash it. God demands we STUDY to show ourselves approved. BE a Berean. Acts 17: 10-11

  1. Erica Goode,

I am a former member of the same stream of churches where the Deatons are members.

I need some answers from you as a rep for the NYT:

Q1: Why are you wanting an understanding about the small group Tyler Deaton ran apart from his membership and devotion to IHOP that Eric Eckhold and many others have already covered in years past?

Eckholm, Erik. “Where Worship Never Pauses” New York Times, July 9, 2011, p.A14.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/10/us/10prayer.html?_r=1&scp=2&sq=IHOP&st=cse

Yoars, Marcus “We Won’t Stop Praying: Kansas City’s IHOP is seeing miraculous growth, yet the Mike Bickle-led 24/7 prayer hub continues to keep one thing—and one Person—at the center” Charisma [Cover Story], Nov. 16, 2010, pp. 19-22.
    http://www.charismamag.com/index.php/news/29555-we-wont-stop-praying

Wilder, Forrest. “Rick Perry’s Army of God: A little-known movement of radical Christians and self-proclaimed prophets wants to infiltrate government, and Rick Perry might be their man.” [Cover Story] Texas Observer, Aug. 3, 2011.

Q2: With literal 1000’s of eyewitness testimonies, YouTube documentaries, DVD expose’s, books etc. of people warning everyone about the parent organization that IHOP is a part, namely, the New Apostolic Reformation — highly documented — why are you targeting just the Deaton murder? Did you think that the Candler baby murder 4-years ago was also somehow detached from IHOP, even though both Jeremiah Candler’s parents and the Deatons were IHOP missionaries and members of the NAR? Please explain where you are coming from.

Q3: Why are you and the rest of the media trying (without success) to separate the Deatons from their church membership and sect?

Q4: Why does the NYT and other media think Christians are so stupid as to think they can convince them that Mitt Romney and the Mormon cult is somehow a legitimate expression of Christianity like you tried for over two years in the last election season? You seem to be playing the same game with IHOP and the Deatons. Why do you insult our intelligence and ability to comprehend historical facts and connect those facts in context? Please explain why your employer thinks they can keep doing this and then expect any sort of cooperation toward your gathering of information for yet another media spin report equating real orthodox Christians in the same camp as the Latter Rain movement, the Word-of-Faith Movement, Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Church movement, Emergent Church movement, Alpha, Promise-Keepers, Rome, Mormons, etc.? Do you really think you can continue this charade?

Q5: Do you suspect that Tyler Deaton, having issues with homosexuality, secretly opposed Lou Engle and other IHOP leaders when they made a missions trip to Uganda and encouraged Ugandan legislation against homosexuals?

Q6: Do you think it is possible that Tyler Deaton planned to introduce his ritual sex into IHOP? If so, how far do you think he would have gotten? Could Tyler Deaton have AIDS/HIV and have realized he was doomed so he decided to infect as many people as he could before he died thereby making his acts a gay “Hate Crime” against IHOPs involvement with Ugandan anti-homo legislation? Was Tyler Deaton’s ritual sodomy and sex acts just his desire to become a cult porno star. Should Tyler Deaton and the rest of his so-called “secretive group” be tested for AIDS/HIV and other STDs? Will the autopsy on Bethany Deaton’s body turn up STDs.

Q7: Real Christians defend their faith by exposing infections of heresy and heretical practices. The Mormon belief structure includes veiled doctrines stemming from Jewish reincarnation as does Scientology. Why is there a war between you, the media, and Christians who reject the doctrine and practice of Jewish and Eastern doctrines of reincarnation? On the one side, your retail clientele who advertize for Christmas so they can make $Billions and on the other, you mock Christians the rest of the year by calling IHOP an expression of evangelical Christianity? Why do your handlers tell you to continue to do this. What do you have to gain?

Q8: Why is it that you and the rest of the journalists covering this story conveniently leave out all the rest of the sexual assault and murder scandals associated with IHOP-KC?? They were operating under previous names such as:

    1) Grace Fellowship
    2) Metro Kansas Fellowship
    3) Friends of the Bride (Brautmystik or Bridle Mysticism)
    4) “TheCall” , “OneThing” and other rallys held all over the USA.

The vast majority of journalist report IHOP as beginning in 1999, yet Kansas State records show Bickle and company changed the names many times. Why do journalist bypass the history of this cult? There is tons documentation proving IHOP-KC is part of a much larger cult. Eyewitness testimonies of former members have already been substantiated. Do you guys think your readers are dumb-as-a-rock or what?? We have numerous articles on cults from the late 70s and into the 80s. What happened? You tried to choke Mormon Mitt Romney down our throat as being Christian and now you are doing the same by calling IHOP a “Christian Evangelical church” when you damn well know they are a dangerous cult!!! Case is point is the horrific starvation murder of Jeremiah Candler by their IHOP missionary parents. They were charged, found guilty and sentenced. It’s all in the
